Empower Children and Communities against Abuse [ECCA] is a not for profit organization in Uganda that was founded in 2002 by a team of female and male human rights activists and child welfare practitioners with the aim of promoting the proactive participation of men, individuals and communities in the design and implementation of gender based violence prevention interventions. ECCA’s mission is to empower children, women and men to work together to address all forms of gender-based violence. In addition to implementing advocacy, research, capacity building, child support and community empowerment program interventions, ECCA provides psychosocial support to a range of communities.

Vacant Positions
ECCA wishes to recruit qualified, competent and highly self motivated male and female Ugandans to fill key vacant positions in the organization. All the positions require individuals who possess the following key qualities:
- Ability to empathize with the predicament of gender-based violence
- Honest, ethical and dependable
- Shared values with ECCA
- Creative and passionate about fighting gender based violence
- Ability to work with people of various cultural, educational and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Mature character
- Leadership skills (team leader and team player)
- Outstanding analytical and writing skills

- An open attitude willing to acquire and share knowledge
- Excellent communicator (verbal and written)
ECCA wishes to recruit qualified, competent and highly self motivated male and female Ugandans to fill the key vacant positions of Counselor and Office administration assistant. The successful candidates will ideally be residents of Kampala but willing to travel and reside in Lyantonde Town, Lyantonde district where required.
1) Counselor under Psycho Social Support Program - Full time
Number of vacancies: 1 (Female)
Reporting to the Program Manager through the Psychosocial Support Program Coordinator, the position holder will also receive overall support supervision from the ECCA Executive Director. She will be based at the ECCA office in Kampala.
Specific Responsibilities
- Provision of psychological non-directive life skills counseling support to clients.
- Participate in social follow-up support in the form of home and alternative care visits.
- Participate in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a comprehensive referral mechanism.
- Plan and support advocacy interventions with the organization’s target group.
Required qualifications and experience
- A first degree or its equivalent in Guidance and Counseling, Community Psychology, Mental Health, Community Health, Education, or Social Work from a reputable institution of higher learning.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Management, Social Work or Counseling from a recognized University will be an added advantage.
- Proven experience in working as part of a counseling team in a middle management position is helpful.
- Extensive experience in child and adult abuse counseling, community mobilization and volunteering.
- Qualifications and experience in Peer to Peer approaches and Training of Trainers (TOT) is another added advantage.
- Understanding and experience of planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of children and/or people focused development programs is desirable.
- Voluntary NGO experience in a children, women or development focused environment is an added advantage.
- Ability to write reports and organize events.
- A team player.
- Good computer and internet usage skills.
- Long working hours
- Aged 23 – 45 years.
2) Office Administration Assistant – ( Full time)
Number of vacancies: 1
Reporting to the Finance and administration Officer, the position holder will also receive overall support supervision from the ECCA Executive Director. He/She will be based at the ECCA office in Kampala, with travels to our Office in Lyantonde town, Lyantonde District if required.
Specific Responsibilities
- To undertake general finance related duties as assigned by the finance and Administration Officer.
- Collate and issue papers for meetings.
- Photocopying duties
- Filing duties
- Open, record and distribute incoming mail for all staff.
- Deal with outgoing mail for all staff.
- Answer general telephone calls
- Provide hospitality for visitors, for meetings etc
- Oversee all aspects of general office coordination.
- Maintain office calendar to coordinate work flow and meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client, staff and organisation information.
- Monitor and assist with maintenance of the organization’s website.
- Interact with clients and visitors.
- Answer telephones and transfer to appropriate staff member.
- Open, sort and distribute incoming correspondence, including general emails.
- Sign for and distribute UPS/FedEx or similarly delivered packages.
- Prepare responses to correspondence containing routine inquiries.
- Perform general clerical duties to include, but not limited to, bookkeeping, copying, mailing and filing.
- Undertake any other duties as may be required to assist in the smooth running of the organisation.
Required qualifications and experience
Minimum Qualifications: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
- A Bachelor in social work, Business administration, Education or related qualification
- At least three (3) years experience in general office responsibilities and procedures.
- Must be computer literate.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of basic office management.
- Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of book keeping.
- Ability to work well either alone or as part of a team.
- Good writing, analytical and problem‐solving skills.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, planning, records management and general administration.
- Ability to communicate effectively and to follow oral and written instructions.
- Voluntary NGO experience in a children, women or development focused environment is an added advantage.
- Ability to write reports and organize events.
- A team player.
- Good computer and internet usage skills.
- Willingness and ability to adhere to long working hours
- Aged 23 – 40 years.
