Empower Children and Communities against Abuse [ECCA] is a not for profit organization in Uganda that was founded in 2002 by a team of female and male human rights activists and child welfare practitioners with the aim of promoting the proactive participation of men in the design and implementation of gender based violence prevention interventions. ECCA’s mission is to empower children, women and men to work together to address all forms of gender-based violence. In addition to implementing advocacy, research, capacity building and community empowerment program interventions, ECCA provides psychosocial support to a range of communities.

 Vacant Positions
ECCA wishes to recruit qualified, competent and highly self motivated female Ugandan to fill a key vacant position in the organization. The position require an individual who possess the following key qualities:
  • Ability to empathize with the predicament of gender-based violence
  • Honest and dependable
  • Ability to work with people of various cultural, educational and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Mature character
  • Leadership skills (team leader and team player)
  • Outstanding analytical and writing skills
  • Presentable
  • An open attitude willing to acquire and share knowledge
  • Excellent communicator (verbal and written)

1.) Programs Manager (Full time- Female)

Specific Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Programs Manager will be based at our office in Lyantonde Town, Lyantonde District with periodic travel to Kampala and other areas of operation as needed. She is responsible for overall planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating all program activities

    • She will take charge of all the organization’s programming and advocacy work and will coordinate the Community Empowerment and Psychosocial Programs and ensure delivery of outputs.
    • Ensure timely and proper documentation and appropriate dissemination of program information.
    • Working closely with the Executive Director, staff, community members, district and national partners, she will develop and manage a comprehensive and sustainable strategy to facilitate proactive male and community participation in gender based violence and HIV/AIDS prevention.
    • Build and maintain a partnership mechanism with key organization stakeholders.
    • Effectively represent the organization in policy dialogue in local, national and international forums.
    • Participate in resource mobilization.
    • Provide supervisory support to all program staff.
      Required qualifications and experience
         
    • A first degree or its equivalent in behavioral sciences, health, education or social science field from a reputable institution of higher learning.
    • A Masters degree in Development Studies, Management, Organizational Psychology, Social Work or Counseling   from a recognized University will be an added advantage.
    • Proven experience in working as part of an HIV/AIDS counseling team in a middle management position is helpful.
    • Extensive experience in community based work and abuse counseling.
    • Qualifications and experience in Peer to Peer approaches and Training of Trainers (TOT) is another added advantage.
    • Understanding and experience of planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of children and/or people focused development projects and programs.
    • Experience in development networking within civil society and between NGOs and government.
    • A minimum of 5 years in a results oriented management position in a children, women or development focused civil society organization
    • An effective team leader and team player.
    • Good computer and internet usage skills.
    • Ability to work for extended hours
    • Aged 30 – 45 years.
